Gwen Stefani in ‘panic mode’ over Vegas residency
Gwen Stefani is in “panic mode” ahead of her first Las Vegas residency, as the June 27 start date draws ever closer. The 48-year-old singer is set to kick off her 25-date ‘Gwen Stefani – I’m Just a Girl’ residency at the Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino on June 27, and has admitted that she’s beginning to feel the nerves as the date draws closer.
Speaking to ‘Entertainment Tonight’, she said: “I’m still in the panic mode of rehearsals. It feels like it’s not going to happen, but it will happen and it’s going to be one of those things that I look back on and go, ‘That was a huge chapter of my life’. So, I’m very excited, I’m very honoured. I feel like it’s the kind of show that I’d never be able to do until this point in my life. [The show is] nostalgic, bringing people through the long journey I’ve been on with music and sharing that and exchanging the love I have with people,” she added. “It’s really just that same journey again, but in a new Vegas-y way.”
Her nerves come after she recently revealed the residency was the “perfect” way to keep performing but still spend quality time with her children – Kingston, 11, Zuma, nine, and Apollo, four – without being on tour.
She said: “Creatively, after that last tour, I felt quite like, ‘God, I have toured a lot in my life, and I love it, but it takes so much out of me as far as being able to focus on the rest of my life with the kids. I have three kids and it’s a big deal. Any parent would probably go, ‘How does she do it?’ It’s almost impossible to do and it’s a lot of balancing. The Las Vegas residency is just perfect for where I’m at right now, being a mom. I did tour for seven years and then it’s just hard with the kids because they’re in school and I’m not home schooling, and you can’t pull them out. It’s just not fair on them.”
