Indian censor board clears controversial film ‘Padmavati’, changes title
The Indian censor board has approved the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati, after the movie provoked protests among religious groups.
The Deepika Padukone-starrer will be released with U/A certificate after the filmmakers carry out ” five modifications”, under a new title – Padmavat.
Censor board chief Prasoon Joshi clarified that “there are no cuts suggested in this film by CBFC, only five modifications”.
He added that the change in title highlights that the movie is based on a fictional poem of the same title, and not history.
Some groups, however, have warned of protests.
